Do you like movies? You can go behind the scenes with the film and media studies minor. You will learn about film history, criticism, analysis, theory, and the techniques that put the human experience on the screen. Through this minor, you will see how our cultures and disciplines are understood and propagated through visual media. You will become more aware of film as an art form, as a technology, and as a means of political and cultural expression.
At Lyon College, following the liberal arts tradition, students learn to connect the medium of film with other disciplines. Students are thus encouraged to combine the film minor with different majors. Pair your passion with an interdisciplinary education! Lyon provides opportunities to engage with film and audio-visual media through organizations like the Arkansas Cinema Society, as well as through KILT, Lyon College’s radio station.
Dr. James Martell
The Lyon Film Cycle shows multiple European films each semester. Academic presentations and discussions follow the film. Lyon College’s radio station, KILT, develops both audio and audio-visual shows where students get to practice and reflect on the visual medium as a platform for both entertainment and education.
