IRB Protocol Submissions

Principal Investigators (PIs) and research personnel have two application options. The first is a Research Protocol Review Application (on the New Submission page), which should be used for proposals that have not been reviewed by Lyon College’s Institutional Review Board (IRB). This form should also be used for resubmitted proposals requested by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The second is a Research Protocol Renewal Application (on the Continuing Review page). This form should be used if you plan to continue data collection procedures after the project approval expiration date (listed on your approval letter) AND you are making minimal or no changes to the project design. If your Research Protocol Renewal Application is not approved, submit a Research Protocol Review Application instead (if you still want to continue the project).

Note: Even if the principal investigator believes their project meets exemption criteria, they must submit the proposal to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) using the Research Protocol Review Application. Only the Institutional Review Board (IRB) chair has the final say on whether a research project is exempt from full review.
