Economics Major and Minor

Do you want to be successful in the current economy? Why not study economics itself? Economics is the study of choice under scarcity. Its tools can be used to analyze social, organizational, and individual decision-making and lead to a deeper understanding of the human experience. You can use economic principles to organize resources better, foster innovation and entrepreneurship, alleviate social problems such as poverty and environmental degradation, and increase the efficacy of government institutions and policies. You can even improve your personal finances!

Meet the Faculty

Why Economics at Lyon?

Lyon College’s economics program consists of courses designed to give students a background in both economic theory and its applications. The major is designed to provide an insight into how the world works and build a foundation for careers in business, the public sector, or graduate study. Students further develop the breadth of their knowledge through elective courses which focus on several sub-disciplines of economics. Lyon College takes a liberal arts approach to learning, so economics majors are also encouraged to take complimentary classes in business, computer science, mathematics, and other social sciences.
