Religion and Philosophy challenges students to raise big questions and reflect on life, faith, and the society they live in. In keeping with Lyon’s Christian heritage, the religion and philosophy program encourages students to understand positions different from their own, to evaluate them critically, and to form their own point of view. Students have the flexibility to pursue philosophy, religion, or ethics within the program depending on what their interests are.
Lyon’s religion and philosophy program promotes interdisciplinary thinking and the development of open-minded individuals who consider opposing beliefs and differing viewpoints fairly. The program also emphasizes ethics and civic education, which are the cornerstones of Lyon’s core curriculum. Lyon challenges students to engage with ethical and civic issues outside of the classroom, too.

“The people and the community of Lyon are truly exceptional, and there is no doubt in my mind that it really is a special place. I’m moving on now to work towards my Masters in Theology at the University of the South’s School of Theology in Tennessee, but I know that in my travels Lyon College will always hold a joyful place in my mind.” -Cade Archer, ’20
