The First-Year Advising Program at Lyon College supports first-year students pursuing a challenging liberal arts education by providing them with individualized, holistic guidance regarding curricular requirements, academic policies, student success practices, and campus resources. This means we tailor your advising visits with us to reflect your needs and your goals, and we equip you to use campus resources to get where you want to go in life.
So, what do we do?
We meet one-on-one with our students several times each semester. We get to know our advisees and provide individualized guidance, especially regarding academic progress and success. We listen to you, pay attention to your development, and recommend campus resources like the counselor and career center. We connect you to people to make things less awkward. Advisers often suggest co-curricular and community service activities to encourage your personal growth and involvement in campus in hopes of helping to create an engaged citizen. You will remain with your first-year adviser until you declare a major, usually before the start of your sophomore year.
