We know that that first year of College is a big one! You have joined a new community, been welcomed to a new environment, and you probably have a lot of questions about how college life affects you. Thankfully, our team of wonderful First-Year Advisors have listened to the students and have created a FAQ section to answer the more common questions on campus. The first point of contact for freshmen and transfer students who are new to Lyon College is a first-year advisor.
Our advisor meets with these students during the first semester to help them become familiar with the procedures and system as well as teach them how to add classes during the first semester. A student will be given a faculty advisor once they have decided on a major.
After that, the faculty advisor continues to guide current students as they work toward graduation.
Yes, every first-year student needs to meet with their professional advisor at least 2 times a semester.

Yes, you will need to meet with your advisor to go over courses for the following semester. It is crucial to meet with an advisor at the start of your first semester to go through your academic plan.
When registration begins, you can use your mylyon to register for the classes that are part of your degree plan from the comfort of your home if you feel comfortable doing so.

It is usually preferable to see an advisor in person even though it is feasible to receive advice over the phone or via email. Using e-mail and the phone to accomplish this is significantly more time-consuming and challenging.
We convey requirements using printed degree plans, therefore it can be challenging to do so if you can't tell exactly what the student or adviser is looking at. Face to face first, then zoom is our preferred technique. However, we ultimately try to work around each student's schedule.
We understand choosing is major is a big deal. Even if you are still unsure about your area of interest, we are here to assist you make educated decisions about which degree plan to pursue or which classes to sign up for.

To determine how much money, you might be eligible for, consult with the Office of Financial Aid. Then, compare that amount to the balance on your student account.This varies across students as many of them are eligible for Pell Grants, scholarships, and other forms of financial aid.
You can order your books online at https://lyon.ecampus.com/. Put in the term, add your classes and the book list will populate with your required books.
